Over 40% of area under sugar beets harvested in Belarus

Belarusian agricultural workers have harvested sugar beets on the area of 36,200 hectares (43.9% of the plan), BelTA learned from the updates posted by the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 13 October, 1.628 million tonnes of sugar beets were harvested. The yield was 450.1 centners per hectare with the sugar content at 16.01%. Potatoes were harvested on the area of 22,300 hectares or 88.8% of the plan. Some 635,300 tonnes of potatoes were cropped. As far as other vegetables are concerned, 87,000 tonnes of vegetables were harvested on the area of 4,090 hectares (68.2% of the plan). The yield was 212.8 centners per hectare.

Maize was harvested on the area of 792,000 hectares, or 65% of the plan. Belarus harvested 756,000 hectares of maize for silage and fodder (75.2% of the plan) and gathered 18.145 million tonnes of grass feed with the yield at 240 centners per hectare. Harvesting of maize for grain is underway and is 16.9% complete: 36,000 hectares were harvested, with 238,800 tonnes threshed.

All in all, 8.297 million tonnes of grain was threshed across the country with the average yield at 37.1 centners per hectare (in 2019, the yield as of the same date was 32.7 centners per hectare). Minsk Oblast harvested more than 2 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast 1.6 million tonnes, Brest Oblast 1.4 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast over 1.1 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast more than 1 million tonnes and Gomel Oblast - over 900,000 tonnes.

Flax straw was harvested on the area of 46,400 hectares or 98% of the area under this crop. Some 151,200 tonnes of flax was procured, with the average yield at 36.4 centners per hectare (in 2019, the yield as of the same date was 31.8 centners per hectare).

In addition, some 864,800 tonnes of hay (85.6% of the plan), 13.388 million tonnes of haylage (106.2%) and 15.55 million tonnes of silage (81.1%) were stocked. Plans are in place to procure 9.3 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed, most of them in Minsk Oblast and Brest Oblast. By this time, 90.3% of the plan has been fulfilled.
